Specimen Type/Requirements
CytoLyt, Direct Smears, Fresh (submitted in sterile container)
Certain special stains may be precluded by presence of fixative.
Collection Instructions:
- Gather supplies:
- Prefilled CytoLyt containers; OR
- Sterile container with sterile saline (brushings only)
- Collection specimen.
- Brushings
- Cut brush tip off into properly labeled CytoLyt container of sterile container with sterile saline added.
- If additional brushings are collected from the SAME site, repeat using the same container.
- Use separate container for brushings from separate sites.
- Washings or Lavage
- Add specimen to properly labeled container with CytoLyt.
- Maintain roughly 1:1 ration specimen to CytoLyt (okay to have more fixative than specimen).
