Specimen Type/Requirements

Sterile Container or Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Synovial Fluid (Note:  Rheumatoid Factor Screen needs to be in a sterile container; red top is not acceptable)

and 

Lavender top (EDTA) tube - Synovial Fluid

 

Test may be affected by gross hemolysis, gross icterus and gross lipemia.

Sterile Container or Red top tube (synovial fluid):

 Preferred Volume     6.0 mL   
 Minimum Volume     3.5 mL   

EDTA (synovial fluid):

 Preferred Volume     2.0 mL

 Refrigerated     24 hours     Preferred for transport   
 Frozen     Not Acceptable     

 

Performed Test Frequency

Monday through Sunday

Additional Information

Test includes: Cell count, differential, Rheumatoid Factor Screen, Glucose, Protein and Crystals.

 

If Rheumatoid Factor Screen is positive, a Rheumatoid Factor Titer will be performed at an additional charge.
