Specimen Type/Requirements
Grey top (Sodium Fluoride) tube - Plasma (preferred)
Light Green top (Lithium Heparin w/gel) tube - Plasma
Gold top (Serum w/gel) tube - Serum
Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Serum
Overnight fasting is required. Give 100 gram oral glucose load after drawing fasting specimen. Separate serum/plasma from cells within 1 hour of collection.
Properly label specimens with date and time.
Panel includes a fasting glucose and a 1 Hour, 2 Hour and 3 Hour post glucose dose.
Test is affected by gross hemolysis. Test is not affected by lipemia.
