Indicate method of collection (Clean Catch, Midstream, or Catheterized) on specimen and order.

Non-Invasive collection sources:  Voided midstream (clean catch), Indwelling (Foley catheter), Suprapubic catheter, Indwelling Nephrostomy (not during surgical placement), Pediatric bagged urine.

 

Invasive collection sources:  Straight catheter, Suprapubic aspirate (Bladder tap)-the only urine source acceptable for an anaerobic culture, Cystoscopy, Nephrostomy (Surgical placement of catheter or collection from kidney/kidney fluid), NOT an abscess-kidney abscess fluid should be ordered as Culture, Bacterial-Other with Gram stain MICR0032.

 Minimum Volume     3.0 mL

Sterile Container:  Urine, Random, Unpreserved

 Preferred Volume     ≥ 1.0 mL   
 Minimum Volume     0.5 mL
