Test ID BLOD0661 Factor VIII (8) Assay
Useful For
Diagnosing Hemophilia A; Diagnosing von Willebrand Disease when measured with the von Willebrand Factor (VWF) Antigen and VWF Activity; Diagnosing aquired deficiency states; Investigation of prolonged Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time; Monitoring infusions of Factor VIII replacement during interventional procedures and prophylactic infusions.
This test is indicated for Hemophilia patients being treated with Advate therapy.
Ordering Information:
Note: If the patient is on any of the following medications for Hemophilia A or B (see list below). This test (BLOD0661) is not appropriate and should not be ordered. Order instead, Chromogenic Factor VIII Activity Assay (BLOD1653).

Specimen Type/Requirements
Blue top (Sodium Citrate) tube - Double Spun Platelet Poor Plasma
See Coagulation Testing and Platelet Poor Plasma Preparation
This test requires its own separate frozen aliquot. The aliquot must be from an appropriately filled 3.2% Sodium Citrate tube to acquire the 9:1 blood to anticoagulant ratio that is critical for valid results.
Platelet poor plasma should be frozen within 2 hours of collection. Double spun (platelet poor plasma) is critical for accurate results.
Patient must not be receiving Heparin or Coumadin Therapy.
Test is affected by moderate hemolysis. Test is not affected by lipemia.
