Specimen Type/Requirements

Pre-smeared slide

Note: Specimen must be spread thinly across slide and properly fixed with 95% alcohol.

 

 

Collection Instructions:

  1. Label charged slide with 2 unique patient identifiers (name, MRN, or DOB) using Chemical Resistant Slide marker.
  2.  Obtain specimen from patient using desired ThinPrep collection device.
  3. Spread specimen thinly across slide quickly.
  4. Immediately place slide in 95% alcohol to fix sample. (DO NOT use spray-fixative)
    1. NOTE: Improperly fixed or smeared slides may result in nondiagnostic results due to air drying or excessive sample thickness.
  5. Send slide in 95% alcohol transport vial to laboratory.
