Specimen Type/Requirements
CytoLyt - Urine
Fixative added (1:1 ratio of specimen to CytoLyt or 50% alcohol) or refrigerated if fresh
Note: Avoid first-morning voided specimen, which show marked degenerative changes.
Collection Instructions:
- Have patient submit urine specimen in properly labeled container (AVOID first-morning voided specimens, which often show degenerative changes)
- Add fixative.
- CytoLyt – Pour up to 30mL of specimen into prefilled CytoLyt container
- 50% alcohol – Pour up to 30mL of specimen into sterile container and add 30mL of 50% alcohol
- Fixative unavailable – refrigerate specimen and get to lab as quickly as possible.
- Label container
- Two unique patient identifiers (Name, MRN, or DOB)
- Specimen source (voided, clean catch, etc.)
- Collection date and time
