Red Top (Double Swab Culturette) - Vaginal/Rectal
Swabbing both the lower vagina and the rectum increases the culture yield substantially compared to swabbing the cervix or vagina without rectal sampling.
Rectovaginal swab collection at 35-37 weeks gestation remains the recommendation.
Test is not affected by hemolysis or lipemia.
