Test ID NBLD0585 Synovasure Alpha Defensin, Periprosthetic Joint Infection

Specimen Type/Requirements

Sterile Container - Synovial Fluid Aspiration  (*)

 

Aspirate joint using standard technique.  At time of aspiration, ensure that specimen is not diluted by saline lavage, contrast, blood or other non-synovial fluids.

 

*  Transfer 0.5 mL synovial fluid to a white cap Greiner no additive transport tube (available from Sanford Laboratories Supplies).

 

*Note:  If also ordering NBLD0668 Synovasure Microbial Antigen Detection, Periprosthetic Joint Infection, the volume required for both tests is 1.5 mL of synovial fluid.   Only one tube is needed for the shared specimen.

Monday-Friday: Collect and ship room temperature the same day as aspiration. 

Saturday-Sunday:  Collect and store refrigerated; Ship on Monday.

 

Note:  For best results, specimens should ship the same day as collected.

Indicate source on specimen and order - Example: Right Hip, Left Knee, etc.

*Overall specimen stability is 5 days and it can be refrigerated for 3 days over the weekend if needed.
