Specimen Type/Requirements

Vaginal swabs, endocervical swabs, male and female first catch urine (first part of stream)   

 

Specimens must be collected using the following devices:

Cepheid Xpert Swab Specimen Collection Kit: SWAB/G-50-US

 

Vaginal swab collection (break at score line and leave small collection swab in media).

*DISCARD SINGLE LARGE SWAB, specimen will be rejected if this swab is placed in media.  This swab is not needed for a vaginal collection.

Xpert Urine Specimen Collection Kit (yellow)

Note:  If Xpert media is not available, unprocessed urine is stable 4 days refrigerated.  See Stability/Transport below.
