Specimen Type/Requirements

 1 Green top (Aerobic Blood Culture Bottle) - Whole Blood    

     

 1 Orange top (Anaerobic Blood Culture Bottle) - Whole Blood     

 1 Yellow top SPS tube - Whole Blood

(Adult Volume = 10 mL. Minimum = 5 mL)   

Also Acceptable:

  • Green top (Sodium Heparin w/out gel) tube - Whole Blood
  • Green top (Lithium Heparin w/out gel) tube - Whole Blood

  Note: For difficult draws or pediatric patients use:

 

  Yellow top (Pediatric Blood Culture Bottle) - Whole Blood 

and

 

  Yellow top SPS tube - Whole Blood (Pediatric Volume = 0.5-4 mL)

or

Green top (Lithium Heparin w/out gel) microtainer (NICU only, volume = 0.4 mL)
