Blue top (Sodium Citrate) tube - Plasma, Double Spun Platelet Poor (preferred)

Blue top (Sodium Citrate) tube - Whole Blood (Stable 4 hours Room Temperature)

 

The 3.2% Sodium Citrate tube must be filled to appropriate volume to acquire the 9:1 blood to anticoagulant ratio that is critical for valid results.

 

Test is affected by hemolysis.  Test is not affected by lipemia.

Specimen Volume

 Preferred Volume     4 separate - 1.0 mL aliquots 
 Minimum Volume     2 separate - 1.0 mL aliquots

 Room Temperature     4 hours     
 Refrigerated     Not Acceptable     
 Frozen     1 month  Preferred for transport   

Plasma must be tested within 4 hours or freeze a minimum of two 1.0 mL platelet poor aliquots.

Performed Test Frequency

Monday through Friday

Additional Information

Testing includes Protime, APTT and an Interpretation. Extended Mixing Study will be performed if
significantly abnormal and would include a Thrombin Time.
