It is best to wait about an hour after delivery to allow fetal blood to mix thoroughly in the mom's circulation, but the specimen should be collected as soon as possible thereafter.

Test is affected by gross hemolysis. Test is not affected by lipemia.

Additional Information
If the infant’s red blood cells possess a weak D antigen, the test may not detect a feto-maternal hemorrhage exceeding 30 mL of whole blood.
Test will automatically reflex to Fetaldex on all
positive results. However after 24 hours,
test will not reflex to Fetaldex due to strict 24 hour
stability for Fetaldex.
