Specimen Type/Requirements
Gold top (Serum w/gel) tube - Serum (preferred)
Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Serum (preferred)
Light Green top (Lithium Heparin w/gel) tube - Plasma
Preferred collection window is 1800-2100. Indicate collection time on specimen and order.
Serum/plasma should be removed from gel separator or cells within 8 hours of collection.
Test is affected by gross hemolysis and gross lipemia.

Drugs causing falsely elevated results include: Corticosterone, 11-deoxycorticosterone, Fludrocortisone, Prednisolone and Hydrocortisone (pharmaceutical cortisol).
