Test ID BLOD0576 Uric Acid

Important Note

Follow special handling procedure when the patient is on Rasburicase:

Uric acid must be analyzed in plasma specimens only. Blood must be collected into prechilled tubes containing heparin anticoagulant. Samples must be immediately immersed in an ice water bath. Samples must be centrifuged off-line. After centrifugation, samples must be immediately analyzed for uric acid or be placed in the refrigerator until testing can be performed. The uric acid measurement must be completed within four hours of collection. This special handling procedure must be followed for 5 days after the dose is given.

Light Green top (Lithium Heparin w/gel) tube - Plasma

Gold top (Serum w/gel) tube - Serum

Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Serum

 

Test may be affected by gross hemolysis, gross icterus and gross lipemia.

 

Specimen should be centrifuged and aliquoted within 2 hours of collection.
