Specimen Type/Requirements

Grey top (Sodium Fluoride) tube - Plasma (preferred for Sioux Falls)

Light Green top (Lithium heparin w/ gel) tube - Plasma 

Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Serum (preferred for Rapid City)

Gold top (Serum w/ gel) tube - Serum

 

Draw 2 hours after a standard meal or 75 gram oral glucose load.

 

Prompt separation from cells is essential. Serum/plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours

 

Test is affected by gross hemolysis.  Test is not affected by lipemia.
